WPPI Awards

March 24th, 2010

WPPI has one of the best print and album competitions around. Photographers from all over the planet submit their work to be judged. The judging is always so amazing to sit in on as you get to hear the judges battle it out and give their thoughts on each image. The awards night included a great video of the judges making fun of themselves.

This is my 3rd year doing the competition and every year I walk away blown away by the work I see. This year I placed 3rd in the commercial advertising category for the work at USC Hospital. Thanks to Kate Heller-Thomas over at Malone & Company for her stellar post work. 2 of my other images received Accolades of Excellence Awards. The really exciting thing is this year WPPI opened up the album fusion category, which allows for moving image or slideshows with music. My piece of my son Avery’s birth won first place! Props to Jaime O’Bradovich with helping on the edit.

I’m honored to be included with so many talented photographers.

USC Hospital Brand Campaign

January 8th, 2010

Here’s some of Geoff Johnson’s latest work for USC Hospital. The work was part of an overall brand campaign created by Swanson Russell.

There were several elements to the shoot that included a series of portraits of 6 highly respected doctors. We decided to shoot an up close portrait along with an environmental for each doctor. The other part was to shoot the doctors at work-everything from surgeries to patient consultations. The ultimate goal
was to capture emotional moments of doctors and patients. The creative vision for the entire campaign was to go black and white.

The coolest part of this project was is where the images are being used. “Union Station Domination” is what they call it and that’s where you’ll see the work.

Check out the gallery to see some of the work up in the hustle of a transportation hub.
