Another special one. My wife grew up spending time at Blackhawk Lake in Lakeview, IA. I had traveled there a few times with her for family events and has such a great vibe. After connecting with Angela & Jake we got to chatting about locations and when she mentioned she’s from Lakeview, I knew we had to shoot there.

A few images from my recent shoot with Alex and Austin. I’ve had the opportunity to shoot at Memorial Stadium a few times and of course being a husker fan myself, I loved walking on that field. It’s a special place! Looking forward to the wedding next year.
Courtney & Ira | Seattle

Back in April, Matt and I traveled to the northwest for one of my top engagement sessions ever. It’s not everyday that we travel by seaplane to a remote family cabin. Yep, we flew by seaplane to Quilcene on The Hood Canal outside Seattle, Washington. I managed to shoot a few rolls of film for this as well.
This place is special.
I met Courtney at Gina & Mike’s wedding back in 2007-so cool that she kept my card all that time and called me to photograph her wedding (in Napa this August). Since both Courtney and Ira grew up in Seattle I knew we’d have to shoot their engagement portraits there. After a few phone calls to talk about locations and details she had mentioned that Ira is an avid skier. I was discussing with her options to shoot near some mountains or something “Northwest”. What a location she got. This place is Ira’s family retreat (summer holidays, clam-digging, getting oysters) and you can feel how special it is. Although the cabin was being remodeled we managed to spend about 2 hours before heading back to Seattle. On our way back we took the scenic route and flew over the Olympic Mountains.
I love that 3 days before the shoot I got a text message “we have a seaplane for Saturday”…

Nebraska Wedding Day Cover

Back in October I worked with Nebraska Wedding Day to create a couple of cover and editorial images for the 2011 magazine. Below are are some of my favorite images from the shoot along with the final February cover. Another cover is slated for June. It really took a team to pull this off and I would like to thank all of the people involved in making the shoot a success. Check out the sweet behind the scenes video at the end of the post.
